I had not heard of this, so I did a search, and there were a few references, but nothing more.

Has anyone tried this?

Haven't tried it.

But I can tell you it would have been nice to have while trying to hold ~1725 RPM in top gear (no cruise control) while testing the cardboard boat tail.

Many minute & gentle foot adjustments were required to try to stick to that 1725 mark (which lines up with 80 km/h).

RC-smoothing of throttle-position-voltage is a good idea, especially if the throttle position potentiometer is scratchy or worn with age.

Would it work with a Civic HX?

Old news.... If you read the site for insights there is lots of data on the "throttle smoothing circuit" since 2008. Hell, a few guys make and sell them on ebay.

And the technical term for running rich for a few seconds is a NOX purge cycle. :rolleyes:

Only if the HX uses a throttle position sensor as part of its feedback loop for deciding when to exit/enter lean burn.

yea old news. i've heard it really hurts throttle response. i seem to be able to control the throttle just fine w/o the mod :/

+1 It makes the throttle really lax, so you need to add a switch to turn it off and on as needed or drive with your bare feet. :eek:

lolz funny you should mention the bare foot driving!
since i've started hypermiling, i've only worn slip on/off shoes. loafer kinda things, so they still look respectable for work and stuff. recently went to big 5 and got some shoes for STUPID cheap, all of 'em slip on/off, as to heighten my hypermiling experience! hahaha

its ALL about driving w/o shoes, way better throttle control for MPG driving

These new cars I just use my big toe. I got nerve damage and cant really feel much with my feet. Of course back in the day you had to realy put all your weight into pushing the petals, but now days you can easily drive with your hands.
