If you can find a grille with thicker bars, or smaller holes, it will reduce the volume of air passing through the grille and therefore reduce the drag from air tumbling around in your engine compartment. Of course, gains will be negligible at that stage and finding a grille with thick enough bars would be an extreme challenge.

My advice would be to either block it off from the rear using cheap or free coroplast (you can plasti-dip a campaign sign for a satin black finish), or make your own out of urethane foam, expanding foam, fiberglass, ABS sheet or other materials. There are many project threads on here of OEM-quality grille blocks and other parts. Search "pretty grille block" in this forum and you'll see several threads.

Ecomodding right now is much like the early days of hot rodding- there are not many specialized parts available and you have to make a lot of stuff yourself. Fortunately we have access to sites like this which make available projects around the world for inspiration and tips!
