Good mileage Bad Whether

So me and my dad went down to santa clarita to drop my little sister and brother off tonight (it's a 45 mile trip from driveway here to there) in his 1988 Mercedes 420SEL , which he just got recently. We've done nothing to this car yet other than an oil change. the car was fully loaded on the way down with luggage and 4 people in the car. It was 42 Degrees out so i was thinking crap bad mileage. My dad drove about 65-75 the whole time. when we got there the car was smoking . The secondary cat is CLogged up and BAAD on there. So my dad was a little more concervative on the way back 60-70 MPH on the trip back
We used 4 gallons of gas and went 90 miles
I was like 22.5MPG

Not great i know but pretty good for a car that is bone stock with a bad cat

Sure our other mercedes' do better than this one on the freeway but i still feel this isn't bad for the car it is

I'll update the numbers after we fix the car

The comments about cold weather economy are not actually inspired by "California Cold," although the effect is always present.

Interesting...

A clogged cat could be restricting your engine on the Mercedes. If it has computer capable of fuel trim, it might be leaning out your injector timings.

Does the car drive sluggish during hard acceleration?
