I have posted in the past about making bio-fuel using algae as the feedstock. Work continues of making commercial sized algae-growing systems.
The other side of the problem was converting algae into bio-fuel. Up until recently one used a modified saponification process to make a combination of biodiesel and glycerin. Now a new process has been patented for making biodiesel from darned near anything and almost no glycerin.
The Mcgyan Process for making biodiesel - Biodiesel Methods
While transesterification is a well-understood process, the McGyan process is still somewhat mysterious.
But some people are putting up. A pilot plant is under construction in Minnesota. We’ll find out if the McGyan process is the real deal or just vaporware.
But the McGyan process produces fuel for a diesel and the EPA still hates diesels.
