Green Commuter will introduce a better way of commuting and car-sharing in Los Angeles. They will utilize a fleet of 100% zero-emission vehicles to provide a combined service of vanpool, public car sharing and employer fleet replacement. The clean energy company's service will be first equipped with a fleet of Tesla Model X SUVs. Green Commuter's proprietary mobile app software will enable its fleet of seven-passenger EV SUVs be used by thousands of member commuters to-and-from their jobs during rush hour and then offered as a car-share for all Green Commuter members at the other times.
There are more than 1,500 vanpools with a destination point in Los Angeles County and there are about 3,000 vanpools across the Greater SoCal region. Typical vanpools with large vans averaging 10-15 mpgs will be replaced by zero-e Model Xs, making it the only sustainable and affordable green commuting in the most traffic-congested Los Angeles metropolitan region.
LA vanpool commuters use their vans between 10 to 15 hours per week, average 1 - 1 1/2 hour commute each way for five-day work week, about 5-10% use a week, the van is unused for the remaining 90-95% of time. The Green Commuter app enables the vehicles to be efficiently used, benefit all kinds of users and maximize their use. The startup will offer discounted rates to first-adopters with packages starting at $10 an hour and $150 per weekend rates. Green Commuter is a minority-woman-owned small business.
