Greetings!, current TDIer..

Looking to sell the Beetle TDI and get a CRX HF. First car was a CRX, and they're peppier than I remember having recently driven one. Selling TDI due to returning to school to finish my degree and needing funds towards that.

Always interested in mods for economy and performance, now more for economy. I imagine making a trailer or having a tow hitch on the CRX with a thick 'skin' in the shape of a long boat-tail for drag reduction. A nice tapering one, for highway trips. I would also like to put on an underbody pan, lower the car, have a camera for side-view mirrors, etc.

Anyone know if the 1984 CRX HF for California (where I am) is different than the 49 state models? If so, does anyone happen to know if what I believe is a '20-year-old car' law that bypasses needing to be smogged is actual for CA?

Anyone with any words of wisdom on the above?

It's good to be here!

I don't think there should be any real differences between the CA and the 49 state in an 84

I think that the 1st gen HF's were carb'd.

Either way if it's in good shape it shouldn't be a problem to smog it.

That being said, I think a 2nd gen HF would be easier to find, I certianly see more of them about. Plus they have electronic fuel injection.

dremd, I've just moved from Oregon to Northern California, up in the sticks of the Redwoods in Humboldt County. Very peaceful, but so was Oregon My girlfriend brought me here to attend HSU, and we're both going now in Environmental Engineering. Our idea is next to move to NE after graduation. Anyways, thanks for offering aid in selling the TDI! Beetle's been doing great, and I've come to really appreciate the looks as well as performance. How's the Golf treating you?

Andrewj, thanks for the info. I saw a 1st gen. for sale cheaply in my area. What's the difference in carb vs. EFI? In aeromodding, what would be the better model-year set to look at? It seems the 2nd gen is a bit more streamlined but 2" wider. In my opinion, it looks the nicer.

Holy crap!

You live in Humboldt?

I'm in McKinleyville. If you keep you're eyes peeled you may see my car driving around (especially in any Safeway parking lots)

I'll keep an eye out for any good cheap FE cars around here.
