Full grille block (but maybe other openings) is more dependent on very specific factors. Some to vehicle, some to climate.

Engine block heater (anything that shortens time to full oil operating temperature) is a year-round quest. Not perfectly related to the above.

A weatherproof garage is still the best solution to vehicle economy.
