Electric power steering pump
Has anyone installed an electric power steering pump. It looks like Volvo, Mini and a couple others use one. Why I ask is that I would like to tow my GM Diesel truck behind my motorhome. I want to install a Roadmaster invisibrake system and they need the power assist to work. My Diesel pickup has a hydraboost brake booster powered by the power steering pump, not a vacuum booster.

I did. It it wasn't meant to run more than a minute or so at a time.

That might be enough to keep the accumulator charged. I get two full boost stops with the engine off. I tow my Saturn L now but after our last trip to Death Valley I really want to take my 4x4 for all the back roads.

I used a 12v hydraulic power unit. Did something like 1.4gpm at 1,400psi.
And was not cheap.

Until about 20 years ago, there were some car with electro-hydraulic power steering. Not so usual, and they became less common once all-electric power steering became mainstream. I remember some such as the 5th-generation Volkswagen Polo and the 2nd-generation Opel Astra, yet AFAIK at least the versions made in Brazil later got the electro-hydraulic power steering replaced by a non-electric hydraulic power steering.

You're best off finding an old one out of another car. You need relatively high pressure, but not much flow, and ideally pressure based speed control.
