Can I take these off?

Can I remove this metal backing for the long-gone rear seat without badly damaging the structural integrity of the car? There are two, one on each end of were the rear seat used to be. I think they are mainly a support for the seat backs. I'd like the improved cargo capacity. These get in the way whenever I am moving large objects like big plywood panels and such.

I think you are correct, they don't look necessary to me, although I am not an automotive engineer. First it's bolted in, second it doesn't really "support" the body. Notice the rear wheel arch runs in basically the same shape, connecting the same points. Looks like their purpose to to provide support for the seats, not the chassis.

Depends on how fast you take corners. You might wnat to feel your car out next time. If you search online you will find a lot of bars, braces, etc to firm up your car as hondas flex a lot in day to day driving. Ive added quite a few braces to my insight to firm it up for cornering, ramps and such.

Two pieces boxed together, might be structural. If they are a single piece stamping, they can't be much added strength. Pop em out and see if you can tell any difference.

They put it IN for a reason, so don't take it OUT without a (good) reason.

My guess, they are there to help LOWER the noise when going over bumps as well as support the rear package tray.

Cool

Depends on how or where you drive. I only have 88 dependable hp and tq so I use the on ramps to accelerate for merging into traffic. I sometimes maintain the previous speed limit when I go from park ways to interstates as well as routes to interstates. The different parts makes the car easier to steer and in some cases steer itself if the road is banked enough. It also makes the car feel better on wet, snow, icy roads. I can almost feel where all 4 tires are vs guess.
