It's a no fee listing so you're not paying for a listing that doesn't sell. Only pay when you sell.

You can LIST them for free. If they sell you pay the final value fee.

I haven't Ebayed in a while. The site went downhill once "free" shipping was an expectation. I listed an auction with a reasonable shipping and handling fee to avoid some of the Ebay fees since shipping and handling is (or was) exempt from the sales fees, and I got negative feedback from the buyer for excessive shipping fees. The very first line in my auction description was to consider my shipping and handling fees because I had them.
Ebay got too easy to use, which is the demise of everything. Easy things are used by the dumbest/ 2nd worst people (worst are smart and horrible), and that causes it to be ruined.

Shipping costs also incur the "sales fee". It's been like that since at least 2016.

Yes, it has been quite awhile now. Once that change happened there was no reason no to include shipping in the price of the item. Just build it in and people thought they were getting a deal.
I'm still surprise how many items I sell at auction go for quite a bit more than I would list them for sale.
This reminds me that I need to get busy listing items for sale. 18 months isn't that long to sell off 25 years of stuff.

I did say it's been a while since I listed on Ebay. Just prior to 2016 sounds about right.
There was a time when I could state what shipper I would use, and simply state that I would charge the actual cost to ship with that method to the buyers location.
Too complicated to think about though, so we all need "free shipping". We're going to get free government services too. How many genie lamps are floating about in the world anyhow?

When you say "genie" (Djinn actually) lamps, are you asking for oil lamps of a certian vintage, or objects that could possibly restrain an actual djinn for long times which could or could not be oil lamp shaped. The numbers are considerably different

Maybe it was a metaphor for the container ships piling up outside both East and West Coast ports?

I mean shipping is free and governments can provide things for free only when wishes from a genie are granted. Genies must be very common with all the free stuff about.
