I'm working on one of those. Using a 3ph element to change heat settings anywhere from 1 to 6KW with series/parallel element combinations, since a 6KW load is not something that can be plugged to a standard household socket, even here in Europe. (In my case I use 2KW to pre-heat the car once charge is complete and 4KW from the 409V DC Battery pack)

In practice the hassle to have a dedicated supply and the need to go outside to plug (I own an EV, so I know all about going outside to plug, wind up muddy cables, etc) rather than pressing a button on a remote control, only makes this attractive given the reduced upfront investment.

Normally this is not an option to have a 6kw out side circuit.
I put in a 12kw outside circuit for 2 reasons.
My welding and plasma cutting operations.
And to advertise my house as having a drive way side electric vehicle charger when we sell it.

How are you going to switch the 400VDC?

I use IGBTs so I can PWM the output to the required power level.
