hello

Been lurking for a few days and I figured I'd say "Hello"

Just converted the lease on my '05 Corolla to a purchase and I've been toying with the idea of some mods to at least get my milage TO the EPA suggested; back then it was 35/40. The last couple tanks I've been getting close, but I figure it should be relatively easy to squeeze out a few more MPG.

Welcome to the group and you will here this alot ...

-Slow down
-Buy a Scan Guage II

Those gems will get you to exceed your epa before having to touch anything on your car, assuming you have a properly tuned car and properly inflated tires.

Enjoy the lifestyle ...

Welcome to the site. What is your normal commute like?

Welcome to EM...

We have a great list of tips for EcoDrivers from beginner to advanced.

The Corolla has great potential. I've noticed that it has that low-RPM torque to make acceleration pretty brisk. Finding the sweet spot with that regard should pay dividends.

Enjoy the site, and best FE to ya!

EDIT: Don't forget to add your vehicle to the EM-Garage :)

My commute consists of driving ~23 miles along the Garden State Parkway during the beginnings of rush hour each way. Some days I'm averaging 60, some days I'm crawling at 7. That's the Jersey crap shoot.

I'm going through that list and there's a few things I'm doing already like driving slower (doing 75 got me to work faster but...) and reducing idling (as much as I can on available routes). I love #17. As a triathlete in training I avoid fast food like the plague, let alone go to the drive-through! ;)

Welcome to the site. Now that it has warmed up a bit you should see even better mileage. If you can afford it you ought to see about a SG(scan Gauge)Break out the tri-bike and put the hammer down you'll be to work in a hour.:D

Daox 05-02-2008 04:04 PM

You might consider leaving 10-15 minutes earlier for work. Sometimes it makes a world of difference. I know it did for me.

The scan gauge is an idea, just have to wait for proper fund availability :) I'd LOVE to bike to work and it would take a similar amount of time some days, but unfortunately I need to pass through the most densely populated, hazardous, and (outside of Camden) dangerous area of Jersey. Just picked up a pair of cruiser bikes for myself and my girlfriend (soon to be fiancé, shhhh don't tell :P) so we can avoid a lot of short local trips.

When I was up for massive OT at work, I'd leave an hour early and late and the rides were great! Of course this was when I was doing 75-80 mph...

Now, I've been looking at some of the DIY mods and they look great, but I lack the mechanical skill/materials/work space to make it work for me that well. Has anyone used one of the premade body kits and altered those for more FE and less ricer-ness?

Daox 05-02-2008 04:31 PM

I don't even know if its possible to find a less rice-ness body kit haha. But, you could look.

DifferentPointofView 05-02-2008 05:46 PM

welcome to EM! maybe you could get a good bumper, skirts and rear bumper from various corolla's in the junkyard and re-do those. Stock bumpers would probably be the easiest because they don't have such wild things sticking out everywhere.
