You might remember the roof has some structural function, so eventually a few reinforcements may be required.

Yeah there would be plenty of reinforcement. To be honest there is a very small chance of this actually happening, but who knows.

Actually, a few reinforcements if correctly dimensioned and attached to the right spots wouldn't increase the weight so significantly as in a convertible. The most critical points are between the rear doors and the rear axle struts.
