I'm leaning towards a '98 or up Civic HX.

Looking to crack 50 highway without doing anything too radical ... thinking that shouldn't be too tough ...

The HX is a good platform. A few mods and some smart driving and you'll see 50mpg highway for certain. I drive a 98 DX and top 60mpg at an average freeway speed of about 60mph.

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

Super cool! 50 didn't seem too far fetched for the HX. This should be a fun little project ...
