Turtle Hello Everybody!!

Well...

I am almost almost 17 currently in my first year of college. I always kind of wondered how Cars in europe got so much better gas mileage. My Grandpa's stock E class sedan gets like 35/40 and it's heavy and powerful. Always scratched my head about that one. But i guess it makes sense, gas has always been expensive there.

Either way, I drive a 98' subaru legacy l wagon manual. I like my car very much and it gets decent mileage(~25 combined 30 Hw). actually better than others of the same make. But it can always be improved. (and tracked accurately).

I do not have any car skills but have always been a hands on type of guy and i enjoy math and that type of work (hoping for engineering degree). Any ideas on where to start modding are greatly appreciated. I have some money but not in large quantity (200$ for now probably)

O yes, hi, nice to meet you!!! Very cool site, very helpful.!

Most people doesn't care about their fuel consumption. Since this year they care about the green intensives, and a little about CO2 emissions as it's rating the intensives.
French constructors have little efficient cars because during first petrol crisis the French government gave them a lot of money to conceive them, but during the last 15 years the FE and Cd are rather constant. People are buying these cars because they are small, not because they are efficient.
As my math teacher was saying me :
in the country of blind people, the one-eyed are kings.
ie: why should they improve as nobody is trying to do better

Denis.

Not really sure... ideas? Considering a scholarship that limits me to washington state. I don't actually know of any schools that have good engineering programs but i have been thinking about Western Washington University in Bellingham... (if you have any idea where that is)

... ya it sucks, my speedometer just quit and it's like almost 100$ for another speed sensor.. and I broke the adjuster for the a/c belt.. but that's not so important. at least the pwr steering/alternator belt is all good. mmh..

You may well be the poster child for ecomodder.com!
Young...male...engineering minded...questioning the current mpg status quo...willing to learn about working on your own car...poor...

My first recommendation is to read. Everything.

Welcome to ecomodder!
