hello from Nebraska!

Hey everyone! I just started lurking here recently and figured i may as well join. Im trading out my 190,000 1998 Dodge neon for a 2003 Mazda 6i and will be doing some aero mods to it in the intrest of improving my fuel milage as i drive about 65 miles per day for work. Looking forward to talking with all of you!

Welcome to the site mazda6john.

What kind of aeromods did you have in mind?

Fat Charlie 06-03-2015 09:07 AM

Welcome!

I can't stress enough that the first modification is instrumentation. ScanGauge, UltraGauge or just a bluetooth OBD connector going to a phone app like Torque- it doesn't matter. The most important thing for economy is adjusting the nut behind the wheel- all the aero mods in the world can't help you if your right foot isn't using them right.

The good gauges may look expensive, but they pay for themselves fast. A bluetooth connector is pretty cheap and pays for itself even faster- and any of them are going to help any other mods you do have a chance to really help you.

Start a fuel log for the Mazda and keep track, too. Real numbers are always better than what you remember seeing on a display.

As far as aero i am planning on extending the factory belly pan farther so it encloses the engine bay and then make one for the rear suspension and bumper. I am going to pick up a bluetooth adapter for the obd port and use the torque app to track realtime milage. I also plan on blocking some of the front end off with blue tape to see what kind of an effect that has on aero.

Well i was really hoping to have some first tank results this week but its not looking like thats going to happen. I have 210 miles on this tank and just now hit 5/8. Tank is a hair over 16 gal

Having results is awesome. Not having to put gas in the car is even better!

Welcome! I look forward to seeing your results. :)

First tank results in! Car got 474 miles on 17.01 gal. Airing up the tires to 50 psi tonight for the next tank. I should add, i drive 5 miles city and 25 miles hwy every day so consistancy is not an issue.

Instrumentation facilitates the most cost-effective ecomod: "adjusting the nut behind the steering wheel".
