Nowadays even some Brazilian-made flexfuel cars are getting rid of the auxiliary cold-start tank, most notably the ones fitted with Peugeot/Citroën VTi 120 FlexStart (Citroën C3 hatchback and C3 Picasso, Peugeot 208 and 308) and the Honda Civic FlexOne. These are fitted with heating coils integrated to the injector tips, a system developed by Bosch. I live in Brazil and I had contact with ethanol-powered cars since I was a kid...

wow, heated tip injectors already in production? can you give a link ?

i seen only one sample from Delphi some years ago, and i do not know, if it was installed to real cars.

Delphi Multec 3.5 Heated Tip Port Fuel Injector

i know that Bosh makes heated fuel rail with usual injectors.

i was trying to made heating for fuelrail, it was effective for starting on pure ethanol up to about -5C, for colder temperatures - still bad.
also heating of all fuelrail takes too much power from accumulator, it is critical at -20C for example.
and many cars has fuelrails with return line, so heating has no sense...

additional gasoline tank was very simple and cheap solution and works very good on any cold

anyway, pure ethanol not become popular here (now i working mostly for export) and all this devices not needed now, but maybe later...

There are cold weathers during the winter, but not usually so extreme as in the North hemisphere.
