Lightbulb HELP - LCD Screen Upgrade

Hi All
Have just installed a MPGUino Trip Computer - fantastic little unit for those who drive the older cars that don't accept scangauge. I took my time and installed it in the only spot I had - almost looks like factory if I do say so myself. BUT the location (centre console) is sufficiently far enough away that the side on view I get significantly detracts from my ability to ready the lcd display. The display used in the unit that I purchased from the developer only reads well directly in front. I do not know if it is a reflective or transflective display (other than it does have a back light) I am wanting to upgrade the display to a much easier to read unit (when side on). Can be a little larger if necessary. The other lcd displays already in the car (from factory (eg climate control, digital clock)) are ten times easier to see. Any suggestions/assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You might also try turning the contrast all the way down and seeing if it looks better from the drivers seat.

Thanks - Have tried all variations of brightness and contrast with little success. Anyway I adjust it, the appearance is less than satisfactory. This is why I have concluded I need to upgrade the screen but don't know where to go from here. . .

Me either, mine was pretty readable from the side with the contrast set to 0. Is it catching some glare or something? would putting a black card behind it to keep the light from the passenger window bouncing off of it help?
