Here to learn new tricks

I used to be a member MANY years ago, but I guess I'm back now. Currently I have a 2018 focus 1.0 manual and an 08 Honda Fit auto. I don't do extreme hypermiling but so far I have been able to easily exceed both cars epa estimates. With the focus I usually average around 43mpg (80/20 highway/city mix). If I keep it steady at 60mph I have seen 56 to 57 mpg. With my fit, I average about 36mpg. The automatic trans holds it back quite a bit, and it's used for mostly short drives of under 10 miles. Hopefully I can squeeze a bit more out of each.

How's the acceleration from the Focus with such a small engine?

It's definitely not a rocket ship, but it is faster than the Honda. It helps that the torque curve is pretty flat from about 1400 rpm up. It can merge onto the 70mph freeway just fine.
