Smile Hi from Dorset UK, 1.4 Diesel Seat Ibiza Ecomotive

I am new to this site. found it whilst looking for ways to get more mpg from my 2009 1.4 Diesel Seat Ibiza Ecomotive. It is 3 cylinder turbo. It does between 60 and 85 mpg. Thats European 8 pint gallons. I suppose most of the gallons talked about on this site are 6 pint gallons.

Going back to the car: It is good but not wonderful, the turbo lag and the reletivly rough ride can make even the driver feel a bit travel sick. The drivers seat is too narrow for big people me and I still have not worked out the best cushion arrangement. And the mpg is not much better than a normal small diesel - but it is very low emmissions so I dont have to pay any road tax.

I would love to hear from anyone - Simbo

welcome to the site Simbo!

Glad to have another British Ecomodder onboard, I've only driven an ecomotive once and I have to agree that the ride is (like most Ibizas) a little over firm,

Being in the pre-2001, over 1600cc tax band I'm HOOOOGEly jealous of you for not having to pay road tax,

Start a fuel log ASAP I'd really like to see what you're getting out of the Ibiza.

By any chance is it white?

Welcome!

An old Landlady of mine has one of these- drove it like she stole it (she came 3rd in Rallydriving experience at Knockhill) It still returned 50mpg.

They do seem a pretty good setup, apart from the 3 cyl diesel Rattle you mention..

Slightly more intrusive than that.. think an old "Twin Tub" washing machine on Full Chat..

I believe you also have to drive them hard occasioanlly to "Clear" soot buildup in part of the fangled emmission control setup?

the 3 pot hum, isn't as bad as a twinspin!!! - if it is - take it back to the dealer.
I drive the three potter regularly in other guises than the ecomotive, and even the higher mileage ones I've driven (140+k miles) they're fine, yes they have a tick over thrub, but that part of the character! at the top end they should shown almost flat-six-esque. bit like the corsa one litre!

Welcome to EM! What a cool little car :

Green Car Congress: SEAT Introduces 62 MPG Ibiza Ecomotive

Quote:
The Ecomotive, the SEAT analog to the Volkswagen Bluemotion models (earlier post), is based on the three-cylinder 1.4 TDI Pumpe Duse diesel engine and has carbon dioxide emissions of 99 g/km, fuel consumption of 3.8 l/100km (62 mpg US), and can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 12.8 seconds.

New software for the 1.4 TDI ECU helps deliver the increased fuel economy, while particulate emissions are further reduced thanks to the addition of Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Meanwhile, modifications in the transmission, especially in the higher 3rd, 4th and 5th gears, allow lower consumption without any loss of power or responsiveness in the 1.4L 59 kW (79 hp) engine.

The new Ibiza has a Cd (coefficient of drag) figure of 0.30, compared with Cd 0.315 for the standard 1.4 TDI model. Weight has also been reduced from 1,106 kg to 1,084 kg. Special low rolling resistance 14” tires from Dunlop help reduce road friction.

Yes, unless the car's owner is another of your Queen's subjects.

Never experienced that in the li'l Skoda.
Surely the 3-pitter diesel ain't exactly smooth, but it should be going OK.
For its size, I think it pulls remarkably well at low revs.

Your 60 mpg (UK) is a bit on the high side, but 85mpg (UK) is nothing to laugh at.
