high school students, 8923 mpg on gasoline, not even their best
Can you imagine going 8923 miles on a single gallon of gasoline? Well that's what these students and advisors at La Joliverie High School at hoping to do at the next Shell Eco-Marathon. To put it in perspective they have one every one since 1992 and broken the world record 6 times. The team's current best is from 2003 at 10,705 miles per gallon (approx. 21.972 ml / 100 km)!
Now you know we are doing things wrong with our normal cars...

some of the designs are pretty sweet, and when you can do things like build up your own engine based off something like a 30cc 4 stroke engine, then modify the snot out of it, and have long stints where you coast...
One of the Battery makers took something that looked like one of those vehicles and powered it for a pretty decent distance off a pair of "AA" batteries a number of years back.

Hi! I am from Finnish Remmi-Team and we got 7800 MPG from our prototype car. I hope that in America schools can achieve these numbers and enter real competition. People can contact me if they want to have more information of our urban concept or prototype to compete in eco-marathon races. We in Remmi-Team share our knowledge gladly. My email is diosol.ät.netikka.fi
We are entirely student based team what's quite rare. Currently our weakest link is our engine and next year there will be upgrade of it. Frame and shell are entirely carbon fiber and we are quite experienced mixing different fibers (carbon & glass) and base materials to have optimal stiffness or flexibility.

Remmi-Team
Frontal Area / Cd
0,247 m2 / 0,0871
Weight
33 kg (without driver)
Drivers minimum weight is 50 kg
We are searching ceramic bearings that would have the least friction. It also seems that wheel covers have more air friction than flat spokes.

Lets hope more and more of the younger people on this planet see these accomplishments and demand better efficiency from our vehicles.
Sure its a very uncompromising design operated under very specific parameters, but when you look at the fact that this is 1000 times better mileage than some vehicles people drive on the road every day, you will understand that some of the vehicle designs people regularly pour 60 plus gallons of gas in every week should be considered a criminal activity, unless it's a business that absolutely must have that type of capability.
regards
Mech

Add some pedals and go to infinity MPG!
