High temperature insulation of engine hoses

My (230V AC) electric engine prewarmer had to be installed on the coolant hose going from the cabin's heating core back to the engine block, wouldn't fit anywhere else.

How beneficial it would be to insulate the hoses going between the cabin and the engine? I am thinking about how much heat they radiate when the engine bay's temperature is below freezing. The insulation may allow slightly faster heating of the engine, or higher prewarming temperature.

What kind of insulation would be best for this? It must withstand relatively high temperatures from the engine block, but also not be affected by low temperature nor moisture.

Pipe insulation.

Hot water or HVAC



Cheap and effective.


Don’t forget to add a engine blanket if you’re not already using one.

Check manufacturers specifications regarding working temperature as there can be wide variances between materials. ( closed cell foam, Nitrile, silicone, etc.)

HVAC and solar heating pipe insulation seem to have working temperatures
between -40 to 150 C.

In 1986, I was involved with a steam/hydronic heating system for the American Airlines headquarters building in Bedford Euless, Texas.
