No word on Cd or weight.

It looks like a little Speed Demon, but you'd need to be one of those Paralympians to fit in the thing.

Darrel Vittone pushed an engine based on a 25hp VW case, in a Karmann Ghia body to 151.4 on that same Salt.

Looks more like the motorcycle class out there.

I bet it would still do over 90 mph if you took dropped in the guts from my Insight!

Very cool, I always like seeing land speed cars. Especially those that go absurdly fast with tiny engines.

But...

I guess I expected a little more from a corporate backed team.

A real pioneer in Land Speed racing is Jack Costella and he has helped build a series of cars called the Nebulous Theorem that this Honda seems to borrow from heavily.

Jack Costella's Official Website

This Honda streamliner would fit into the J engine class (Under 750cc). Those records are currently set at 266mph (Fuel) and 269mph (Gas) by the Costella & Yacoucci team with a 700cc engine.

So, very cool. But I like the amateurs' car a bit better.

If I hadn't gone looking, I'd never have seen his M-B coupe

I note the NACA duct in the windshield.

The Sonic Wind website in general is on-topic

I'd sure hope so, since my stock Insight can hit the high 90s on level roads & no headwind :-)

Well, you're halfway there...

Power needed to overcome aerodynamic drag is proportional to speed cubed. At higher speeds, rolling resistance is a small factor and can be ignored to get a close approximation.

Assuming it takes 190hp to go 260mph in this car, 80hp (67hp gas engine, 13hp electric motor) will get it going... ~195mph.

It should do 90mph using just the electric motor from the insight.

I wonder what its fuel economy was at that speed.

Cd

We could use a rear view of the car.If the parachute tubes are exposed, the Cd will be compromised.
With clamshell doors covering them,or an ejectable fairing (like Summers Brothers' Goldenrod) the Cd can be trimmed to the minimum.Around Cd 0.115 (subsonic).Less than 4-sq-ft frontal area.Weight is meaningless out there. They need all they can get to prevent wheel-spin and loss of control.
Low drag is nice.Driver safety is paramount.
PS @ above 250-mph,these cars are transonic, with shockwaves forming over parts of the body. The coefficient of drag will be transient, changing over the speed range.
