Photoshop help

I'm pretty sure I've seen a few of you do this here... so maybe you can help.

I want to make a template for side skirts and air dam. I have access to a cad cutter, so i can make paper templates easily.

How do I use photoshop to figure out dimensions of objects?

I know I need to have like a ruler in the image so I can base every measurement on that. But I'm not sure after that.

You don't necessarily need to put a ruler in the image; you just need to know the measurement of something of the image.

Then you find the measurement of that item in pixels with the ruler tool, or the select tool (with the "info" window open), and do the math.

EG. let's say your door handle is actually 15 cm across, and in the image it's 90 pixels wide. Pixels per cm = 90/15 = 6.

You say you have a cad cutter, so I would assume you have cad as well? If so, maybe it will let you import the file (at least Autocad does). Then you can scale the image to a known length, preferably a large part of the car since that will increase your accuracy. From there you can draw your ideas on it. I do this a lot.

It's a vinyl cad cutter. So we use illustrator to make vector images.

Isn't there something that you can say , x pixels = x cm, and when you use the measure tool it states the measurement?

I mean, I guess the way Metro explained it that will work.

Try and look for the information regarding photo shop online and you can even download the tutorials regarding it.
