How do I waterproof plywood?
I know there is Marine - grade plywood, but I would not know where to buy that, and I am trying to take care of this today. As I mentioned elsewhere, I started painting Mother's house in May, but most of the trim had dry rot, so trying to figure out how to replace it. The problem is that it is smaller than all the lumber that I bought, and I am not purchasing a planer to trim down larger pieces, and then never using any of that expensive equipment again.
I bought plywood of the proper thickness, and plan on trim to fit, but is there a proper way of waterproofing it, or will I be doing this again in a year?

Probably dip it in Thompson water seal.
I trim around windows with poplar and thata how I water sealed it.

How about oil-based paint? That should not peel off like latex does.
You cannot paint over Thompson's and more of the original trim is still good than needs to be replaced, so I would rather make the new trim match the old.

Oil paint could work.
Only so long as the paint surface remains intact.
Once it gets a break or a crack develops, water gets in the plywood and causes it to delaminate.
You may be able to epoxy coat it.

I last painted the house ten years ago; if we still have that I doubt it is still good.
I did purchase paint back in May and hopefully all of it is still good.
Hopefully!
I read about oil-based paint and the writer seemed convinced that latex is better in every way.

Yeah I have used paint that was 6 or 8 years old.
Just take it to a hardware store and get it shaken real good.

I've used 10 year old paint. Nice the previous owners/painters left the extra under the steps in the garage. I've patched and touched up quite a few things since buying in 2010.
