The only problem is, how are you going to charge someone for driving x amount of miles in a civic and is the person with a Navigator going to get charged the same for the same miles? Best way is to raise gas prices through the roof, then people will drive less and if they have to drive far to work and back then they will chose a fuel efficient car or carpool/bus
Yes but quickly raising gas prices will cripple logistics and small business. At the end the raise in gas will at the end come out of your pocket through higher cost of just about any goods, it doesn't seem like a solution.

I agree with Old Mechanic that a tax break for commercial vehicles is the key.

judging by my fillup reports. ive only had this vehicle for one full 12 month period. and it was 7500 miles.

I would estimate my yearly miles to be 10k though 7500 in the element and 2500 in the electric vehicle.

25,000 miles per year.

Government should butt out.

Sorry, we can't add a pole after the initial post. However, I think if you make a new thread with the pole I should be able to merge the two together.

Anyway, I think last year we put 13k miles on the Prius. Probably about 4k on the Paseo.

20k/year
NO TOLLS they waste more money, either through slowing down for them or the cost of manufacturing cards, gps etc. Just raise the gas tax, simple! Then there is a real direct incentive to get better FE. The current tolls in the US are ridiculous, I pay higher tolls for a motorcycle with small trailer which does near zero damage to the road and gets better that 45 than my 7k-lb truck Why, because these brilliant bureaucrats count axles. And don't bother telling them your bike has a single sided swing arm and has no rear axle

Put all car taxes in the fuel.

Drive a lot, pay a lot.
Drive inefficiently, pay a lot.

Some 24500 km or 15200 miles /year

I drove my truck about 7000 miles last year and rode my bicycle about 5000 miles.
