How to plan refueling on a trip?

I'm headed down to the Redwoods today, then to SFO, then to Big Sur, then to Yosemite, then to Creator Lake, then back to PDX. In the past, I've tried to rely on my fuzzy memory to know which towns have the cheapest gas, but I'm wondering if there's an app for that?

I use Gasbuddy to find the cheapest gas in town, but it's no good when deciding if I should stop now, or go another 100 miles to get gas.

Any tips for getting the cheapest gas on a trip?

Try their trip cost calculator. You input your MPG, tank size and if you want frequent or minimum number of stops and it tells you where to stop for the least expensive gas. Program the stops in to you Sat Nav and your good to go. Down side prices subject to change and the best prices in an area are not always convenient.

I know gas stations near an exit are typically higher, but in many cases its soo close its worth the extra to gas n go and not worry about getting lost or then having to find a place to eat since the budget gas station sticks it to you on sodas and chips. In many cases I use traffic as an excuse to take a gas/food break as in some cases the traffic clears up by time you hit the road again.

I use Gasbuddy for this all the time. Go to the map page and just zoom out to see more stations. You can then scroll along you route.

I've been using Gasbuddy for quite a long time, and never thought to press the "map" button. Thanks!
