Howdy from Arizona

I'm retired and very much into 4x4 Jeeps. I require certain modifications to my vehicle so that it can take me places up in the surrounding mountains in extremely rough terrain. My hobby is tracking down old abandoned Ghost Towns, Mining Camps and closed gold mines. My interest here will be maximising my mpg's while making my vehicle more efficient ~ a difficult task for a lifted 4x4 running oversized mud tires.

I have,
2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
3 1/2" RE Lift
4.0L
Flowmaster Performance Muffler (shortened exhaust)
K&N air Filter
33x12.50-16 Aluminum Wheels - Kuhmo Mud Tires

So far I've increased the mpg's from avg 12.5mpg to 15.7mpg's. My goal is 25+ mpg's. Hopefully I will not anger the more eco friendly folks here with my "not so eco friendly" vehicle. I'm truely hoping to make it as eco happy as I can without restricting it's ability to traverse terrain that most cannot.
I am disabled and require a solid vehicle to take me and bring me back safely.

Thank You, I am looking forward to learning as much as I can from this site.

Dan

44Dan -

Welcome to EM! I went into the Garage and searched for your Jeep and found these :

EcoModder Garage - Search: Make=jeep Model=wrangler

At 15.7 MPGs it looks like you are competitive with what other Jeep owners are doing on the site.

Thank You - Thank You, yes I've been pouring over the mass amount of info here. I know I'm a bit out of place with my particular vehicle but i've gotten quite a few ideas so far from here. This I-6 type of motor has been in production for more than 50 years and I refuse to accept that it is at peak performance from the factory by design, as I've been told.

What a great siite you have here.
