Hypothetical MPG Graphs for F-150

Using the Cd, Power, Rolling Resistance, and MPG calculator I generated four curves for my F-150 with various iterations of aerodynamic appliances added.
The top curve is for the truck with a belly pan added which I have not done yet. The bottom curve is for the truck naked. The two middle curves are for the the Aerolid, and then the truck with the boat tail added. My real world data fits some of these data points pretty closely. I just have not been able to gather data under conditions that match my inputs in every instance.

In Manufacturer Mileage Sticker Terms labeling might look like this.

Truck Naked, 15 City/21 Hwy/17 Mixed

Aerolid, 15 City/23 Hwy/19 Mixed

Plus Boat Tail 15 City/25 Hwy/21 Mixed

I like and use the calculator as well, just remember that its a tool and not 100% accurate...real life just has way to many variables (road conditions, elevations, wind, temperature changes, etc, etc). I have been able to consistently beat the "projections" generated, for a variety of reasons. I'm sure you are very aware of this, just didn't want you to justify "mod x" specifically because it will improve your mpg "y" guaranteed.

The biggest take away I have from using the calculator is DRIVE SLOWER. Everybody knows this, but seeing it laid out in that format really helped me, and it maximized all of my other mods as well.

Thanks kir_kenix. Yes I am aware of this. In fact I have beat the mpg projections in the middle parts of the curve but matched both ends to my real world data. I pulled my dealer city/hwy/mixed mpg sticker projection off the graph. My truck naked is rated at Hwy/21 mpg and this happens at around 62 mph. With the aerolid I can get 21 mpg at 67 mph. With the boat tail this happens at 72 mph. I think the calculator and my graph help visualize the improved performance. Both Phil and I think improvements could be made to the calculator, but are impressed that it fit my data pretty well.

totally agree on drive slower , this mirrors my experience with my 2015 Silverado, good savings when driving 55-60 vs 70
