ideal shape trailer help
I want to build a trailer to travel, I go to a few car shows and would like to carry my wheels in it and also use when we go to California . I want to follow the ideal shape maybe someone can help with some computer magic or ideas I'm a fabricator build from prints but have no experience drawing I build as I go and usually comes out looking good here is a little drawing I made thanks in advance for any help

Fun.
I like how you've made a short tongue - the smaller the car/trailer gap, the better (if you can handle the reversing). Side view, I think if you imagine the "implied" curve of the roof line extending behind the car and you were on that line, you'd be pretty good. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a "template" illustration. Is the big spoiler part of the plan? |
My drawing suck but I will try to follow the roof line. The spoiler is part of the Mugen Zero lift body kit I want to get the kit is designed and tested in wind tunnel for better MPG and I just love the way it looks

The front facia and side sill extensions may help a little, but I'm highly skeptical about that wing! (As a drag-reducing element.)
|
I was thinking the same about the spoiler the cool thing about the kit is the boat tail on rear wheels and the diffusers I wouldn't mind making one like the CRX Mugen spoiler

Yeah - that Mugen CRX spoiler is a much better bet.

shape
You could use the Aerodynamic Streamlining Template Part-C tool at the top of the Aerodynamics Forum to aid design.
It's gonna need to be something like http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...d2/Honda-1.jpg http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...titled-6-1.jpg http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...n12-21-131.jpg http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...ntitled-11.jpg http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...titled-8-1.jpg http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...d2/Scan3-1.jpg http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/.../scan12-20.jpg http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...ad2/Bottom.jpg ------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the maximum benefit,the gap must be completely sealed,creating an aerodynamic singularity. |
Insight II/Template
Here's a 'Template' comparison of your Insight. The hashed area depicts the region which is compromised due to the lack of the boat-tail.
Your trailer would just fill in as much of the missing volume as you like. http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/...ead2/04-01.jpg ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here's a link to BamZipPow's streamlined 1-wheel trailer that he's currently developing.Bam's T-100 has demonstrated higher mpg while towing the trailer than without it,illustrating Wolf Heinrich Hucho's recommendation for elongation for lower drag. http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ler-26997.html |
So it begins still need to shorten the tongue and lower the trailer a bit . The hitch is a bit lower then the body so i have put aluminum plate to flow with under body a bit better
