Increasing amount of SGII problems

I bought my scanguage II v.3.15 about a year ago. No problems until about 2 months ago when every now and then it would shut off during trips. No big deal, hit the home button and everythign would work fine again.

About a month ago, it started doing this much more frequently. Until a week ago, it did this about every 5-10 minutes.

The last few days, it has been giving me erroneous trip data displays, telling me that I am getting 3-4,000 miles per gallon on the trip. I'll go and reset the trip reading and it will be fine, for a few minutes, until it either shuts off, or goes back to some erroneous reading again.

The last couple days, it occasionally also displays blank black retangular boxes where some of the letters are supposed to be... instead of MPG, it would have M_G with the P being blocked out.

Anyone know how to fix this?

It sounds like it's borked. I would write to LinearLogic about it, and see what they say.

I agree with RobertSmalls, probably a latent-lemon.

I am curious, though. Does it sit in direct sunlight when you leave the car parked? I keep my venerable SGI in a shaded part of the car to reduce the risk of it being fried.
