Daihatsu Charade Phoenix $1,500

Daihatsu Charade Great Condition 50MPG Perfect Starter Car

No mention of how many miles it has, just a claim that it is much more reliable than a Geo Metro because it was made in Japan.

I am told those have many toyota sourced bits and are nice and reliable, which is a good thing since parts only come out of the junkyard and they aren't at many junkyards.

That said I would love to find a local charade for under $400 to take the xmsn out and put in my fathers Miles ZX40 (which uses the same xmsn)

When I looked into the company, I found out that they have been in business for over a century, although it certainly does not mean that they have been building cars that entire time. I just saw a car by a company that hardly sold here and assumed that it must have been a failure. I believe that I heard of European Diahatsus while I was in Germany, but pretty much thought the company was out of business. However, reading Wikipedia, it seems like they are doing well, and some of their cars have been sold as Toyotas. It seemed like the main reason that they stopped selling in the United States is because Toyota obtained a controlling interest and pulled them.

Daihatsu had some models with the insta rust paint system as well (same system honda liked in the 1970s), no idea on charades, given most were sold down south it may not have mattered. Our daihatsu move is rusting up nicely though in the wonderful salt belt.

Daihatsu has had some interesting hybrid alternatives and a lot of micro cars, which of coarse were never really sold here to speak of.

I was actually trying to find a Metro that I passed that said "For sale $1,000," but the ones that I saw on Craigslist were more--two were $3,500.
