Instant MPG info center on dash

We recently bought a 2009 Saturn Aura XE with the in-line 4 cyl. We love it. After driving the "Aero Brick" (1995 GMC Safari) it's such a change. In particular I like the Driver Information Center (DIC) on the dash. I drive my 1997 Ranger pretty light footed and wondered how it would translate to the Saturn. With the DIC in "Instant MPG" mode I can now tell. I leave it on that setting continuously while I am driving. I know it isn't as precise as a Scan Guage or MPGuino but it does seem to work. My wife drives with a heavier foot than I do, but this function has helped re-train her right foot a bit. I watch it pretty closely and make it like a game between us to see who does better on longer trips. (I usually win LOL) I would recommend using this function or something similar if you have it in your vehicle. You can check your average MPG with the touch of a button for each tank and then reset it when you gas up. The best we did was a combined (her and I) of 34 MPG (90% highway speeds) on a trip to St. Louis from the Rockford Illinois area and back.

Does anyone else use this function while driving to get a real time feedback of their "right foot usage"?

I use it all the time on the cars at work (I work for Enterprise Rentacar). If your wife is anything like mine, you better let her win sometimes or she will stop playing
