Longtime Lurker from Rhode Island

Hey everyone,

This is Scott and I am a long time lurker and now, first time poster. For the past 2 yrs I have been driving a 1995 Grand Cherokee Limited with a 5.2l V8 and AWD. While driving in a reasonable manor it has netted me an avg MPG of 17-18. My commute is about 90 miles RT so I was really ready to step into a more economical vehicle. It only needed to hit 3 needs. Manual transmission(I sooo miss rowing through the gears), Air Conditioning(I know that is a MPG hog but I am in a car for 15+ hrs a week and need my comfort), and be able to get over 30mpg.

I've been searching for a while and came upon my chariot, the Gas Shaggin' Wagon. Its a 1998 Ford Escort wagon with 133k on the clock. $1000 out the door and it only needs the bushings replaced in the shifter(it is waaaay sloppy). Other than a little cosmetics on the outside, its a great looking car.

I have already done a 100 mile run and fill with it and that netted me 35mpg. So that is my baseline. I want to do wheel covers, rear skirts and a Kammback. If I can get up to 45mpg I will be SUPER happy.

Thanks for reading,

Scott

Welcome! And congrats on the move. Aero improvements can be big obvious stuff like tail extensions, or dozens of fiddly little details.

Thanks!!!

Aero will help me the most as I do about 80-90% highway.... I have been soooo good at keeping it under 65mph but its hard to do with everyone zooming by.

Filled up again and got 38mpg... I am going in the right direction!
