I will withold my personal opinion of the toyota "quality" but, do some research on the sludge problem and other toyota engine/vehicle issues. If you do own a toyota, I would run nothing but the higher end synthetics in it to help prevent this problem.
Well I chose not to buy a toyota sienna after reading about denied warranty claims despite proof of maintenance. You expect that sort of treatment from the lower tier manufacturers.
It pings hard when fully warmed under hard accelleration. When it starts to come on strong around 4k. I suspect the knock sensors are corroded and causing the problem. It could also be weak fuel pressure, o2 sensors, poor egr flow, or carbon buildup. All likely contributers. Currently it runs very well so I'll leave it as is. It doesn't always do it.

Also run some really good fuel injector cleaner through it when you have half a tank left. I stick berrymans in it every few months. New fuel filter too
Checked tonight and no pinging, ran great, has lots of power. It may have worked itself out.
I hit a bolt tonight on the freeway. I suspected a possible issue so I started cycling through the tire pressure monitor. Before I could get to it the TPMS alarm went off stating that pressure was 20lbs in the afflicted tire. I pulled off and it promptly finishing flattening. A neat system.
