Just beat my Civic!

Well I figured the Insight would be a lot better on fuel on the highway at least, seeing as the IMA isn't helping out around town. But wow, even without the battery assist, and doing probably 80% of my driving in town, I was at 622 kms on this tank when I parked, and it is only 2 bars under half a tank! 620 kms would be about when I would start to wonder if I should go get fuel in the Civic, and that was with a lot more highway driving. I figured the Insight would be better without the IMA, but man that's a lot better than I was expecting. It is seriously making me think about taking the functional IMA out of the other twin and running it in this one for now, just to see how well it can do with proper assist. Is that a do-able job for someone on a weekend?

It might be interesting to see if the Civic IMA and can be disabled and then do an A-B-A test:
  • MPG - Civic IMA working traction battery
  • MPG - Civic IMA disabled traction battery
This might give a clue to the relative performance with and without the IMA system working.
