looks like this horse is beat to death, but ill add my 2 cents. once a car gets below the $5,000 mark the depreciation falls off, you'll see an asymptote. even if i had a gas powered chevette with half a million miles bald tires but it looked decent and ran well id expect $800+, on the same hand my current car we bought for $700 when it was 7 years old with 132,000 miles on it and a blown engine.
used cars that are in pretty good shape but are older than 8-10 years are in their own class, they are worth way more than scrap, but nowhere near "pre-owned" status, prices vary wildly.
