Hey all, I've been in and out but haven't posted in a while. I had a thought the other day about power steering, and figured you all were the best source I knew of.
I can drive my car easily without power steering - I did it for several months when I broke my PS pump by accident. However, I can't disable it permanently because other household members would find it to be...less than enjoyable (
).
So, here's my idea. Swap over to an electrical PS pump, instead of a belt-driven one. Put a button inside the cabin to control if it's on or off. The thing is, I don't want to forget to turn it back on when I'm done, and have my wife try and drive it that way!
What's the name of the switch I need?
- Normally Closed (default state ON)
- Press Button = OFF (circuit open, repeated presses do nothing)
- Power Loss = return to default state (ON/closed)
This way, I can shut it off when I get in/so choose, but whenever I turn the car off, it's back to normal and my wife will never notice the difference!
Best for both of us, right?
