In my scheme, there would be no room for interlopers. The trucks would follow closer than railway cars.

The idea of a whole bunch of computer-controlled vehicles traveling very closely to cut down on aero drag is not new. It was one of the points that was touted by proponents of autonomous vehicles at least as far back as the 90s, that I can recall.
