electro-magnetic valves
Presently,and since 2008,Eddie Sturman,Woodland Park,Colorado is working on digitally controlled valves and hydraulic actuators and Valeo Group,France,is working on electromagnetic valves which will do away with the camshaft and conventional valve train.
They'll be able to do:
*variable valve timing
*variable lift
*variable duration
*2-stroke cycle
*4-stroke cycle
*5-stroke cycle
*6-stroke cycle
*or 8-stroke cycle
*cylinder deactivation
*and basically lose all the mechanical friction of the valve train
Quite a coup if they can pull this off!
*Scuderi Group,which I mis-identified originally as working on this technology,is working on a split-cycle air hybrid engine.Apologize for the confusion.
