Hi,
I'm wondering if people have any general tips and techniques for getting the best economy out of a Turbodiesel, specifically a VW PD TDi type of unit ?
I've tried a few of the tecnniques described here but although my instant and average MPG outputs look good (average usually about 60 MPG - instant rarely below 50) my brim-to-brim figures are always less.
I've seen reports on some of the fuel "contests" and noted a few Jetta TDi's doing quite well with very impressive figures, and as my car is lighter and smaller I would think I should be able to improve from where I am just now.
In short I have hypermile-envy(tm)
My car is one of these :
Techniques So Far :
- Slower on motorways, usually 60 instead of my previous 70 (honest officer...)
- No hard acceleration
- Coasting in/out of gear where possible (still experimenting to determine which is best)
- Short shifting, usually around 2000 rpm max on the flat.
Mods :
- Emptied the boot of carp.
I may look at some mods, specifically cleaning up the airflow over the front (clear inserts over the fog lights, clear upper grill block, partial block of the bottom depending on temps etc.) later but I want to get what I can from sorting out the issue between the wheel and the seat back.
Advice or abuse gratefully received.
TIA.
