Sharon - '00 Fiat Punto ELX JTD
90 day: 42.76 mpg (US)

If it's not going to bring significant fuel consumption improvements it might at least increase top speed - I'd love to hit ~160-170 instead of my best - 150.

Tomorrow I'll hopefully start by making wheel ramps so that I can safely get under the car (original car jack got broken and I have only two 'thingies' to support the car). Then I'll be able to get some measurements done to create belly pan.

I'm looking for some information about Fiat Punto Economy Power - concept version with 1.9TD engine that had fuel consumption of just 3.6l/100km. It went through some serious mods like 20% of weight reduction, flat wheels, modified bumpers etc.
All the information I was able to find was a short article on polish Punto fansite with just one picture

Maybe you know something more about this one?

BTW - Stock Punto is not a aerodynamically bad car - Cx is 0.31 and frontal area is 1.99m^2.

The streamlining on the CRX increased its top speed by 9-mph and pushed mpg from 52,to 60.6 mpg at 55-mph.The two go hand in hand.

Hi!

I started modified my Punto I 1.1 55Hp.
I have board computer from www.nestor-electronic.pl :: Indeks.
I did wheel covers.

My last average consumption was 5,14 l/100 km now. Half way i going with full load (+3 people) to work.

Now i plan wheel skirts and kammback. ( see my last post with kammback question http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post115829

Material: kammback: plexiglass or something like that( width - don't know if 2mm is enough)
wheel skirt: coroplast width 2-3 mm.

HF & GL with ecotuning

I think that the car which you are referring is the Fiat Punto Economy power.
browsing on the web I found this document:

Prototype Point "Economy Power" at 57°
Frankfurt Motor Show
Print version
The prototype point 3.8 l/100 km is not a "dream car Organic Living" but an experimental vehicle,
through which it will be possible to develop devices intended to be, then trasferitisulle cars
normal production.
Inspired by the criterion that even minor consumisignificano emissioniridotte, the designers of the Management
Fiat and Fiat Research delCentro sisono the objective data direalizzare a car that consumes only 3.8 liters of
fuel per 100 kilometers. With the commitment, however, not to resort to a prototype designed
specifically, but to a car are common, such as the Point. The difficult task was made
even more challenging by a commitment to get good handling characteristics and performance (as
about acceleration, shooting and speed) than the same displacement of the point today
production.
Rejected, therefore, the easy way out of a pure-seeking of a small car with a laboratory
displacement reduced as much as performance, fought a more difficult path, but aimed at a future
transfer deirisultati ottenutisulla diserie production.
Hence the careful search of every possible refinement through three main actions:
optimize performance and fuel consumption through better management of the engine (especially
with regard to power output) and an appropriate choice deirapporti gear;
delCx improvement, working on the body of the car, without distorting the line of
model;
weight reduction.
And 'born that way the prototype point 3.8 l/100 km adopting a newly developed diesel engine, capable of
reach the maximum power of 80 hp at only 3000 revs / min. The engine also has a good
torque (21 kgm at 2000 rpm / min), which has enabled the use of ratios to the change (made of magnesium)
very long.
Excellent coefficient of aerodynamic penetration, even if you think that maintaining their appearance,
The prototype has a CxāS of 0.49, 26% lower than the normal production car.
On the accurate work in a wind tunnel that led to the adoption of new side skirts, a
a change in the lower front bumper and front, a rear bumper also amended
in the bottom and at the wheels, which, among other things, have aerodynamic cups. The New
exterior mirrors and rear modified ilfanale that has a clear aerodynamic
iflussi designed to optimize air. Ilfondo fairing of the car. Few interventions, so.
But all targeted and tested for a long time.
The prototype point 3.8 l/100 km weighs 840 kg, 200 less than the point diserie. Ilrisultato was obtained
making extensive use, for the entire chassis and mechanics, and at lightweight as materialisofisticati
magnesium, aluminum, titanium, carbon fibers and polymer plastics. They are aluminum, for example, doors and
tailgate, as well as shock absorbers, and cross arms. Magnesium are the soul deisedili, changing and
steering box. Titanium is the discharge pipe and carbon fiber steering column.
Other alternative technical solutions have focused on compatibility, the following details.

Suspension Front: After lowering buoyancy, it was necessary to build a new mechanical crossmember and new aluminum uprights with terminal connection for shock absorbers, stabilizer bar has been optimized for efficiency by passing above the street and attacking rods directly through the dampers.
Rear suspension with coil springs, torsion beam pattern under the floor in the wheel and shock absorbers.
Powertrain suspension: suspension rod with barycentric type of reaction on the mechanical beam.
Transmission: Full tube axle, CV joint optimized, now integral tripod specific output gearbox shaft.
Command change: solutions to two cables.
Steering control: support monolithic magnesium steering column, steering column, composite mechanical steering rack and pinion with magnesium optimized tooth profile.
Brakes: hand brake lever optimized, new parking brake cables, new media and handbrake lever, rear brake drum specified in the MMC or 180.
Tank: low power consumption of the car has reduced the capacity of the tank (equal autonomy) by developing a new sheet of 26 liters.
Exhaust pipe: new exhaust system with single silencer back and consequent reduction of heat shields.
Looking for wheels: aluminum roll obtained from a 9 mm disc.
Starting System: Newly developed compact battery (semibipolare recombination) from 30 Ah, 6 adoption of supercapacitors from 2.3 V 800F capacity each, connected in series, which form a buffer of capacity particularly useful feature to start " stop and go "

Rolling tires 155/70-15 adoption of the following characteristics:
geometric dimension that tends to reduce the deformation of the tire footprint area;
profile of the tire and sculpture designed to operate at 3 bar;
use 1% of compounds of silica and other innovative materials to manufacture all of which they have ignored the constraints of an industrial production;
use of specific sculpture;
specific architecture;
smaller bearings with low friction seals.
Returns: Eliminate power steering and alternator high efficiency.
