Luca EV: using waste to create mobility
Today the Techincal University or Eindhoven will present the Luca, an EV constructed primarily from waste material.
22 students have worked a year and a half on it and this is what they came up with.

Quote:
The main part of the chassis will be made of a bio-based composite made of flax, fully recycled PET and PP, straight out the ocean!
|
Quote:
The body of Luca will be made of a unique material developed by UBQ. This company makes an additive for plastics out of household waste that usually ends up in landfill.

A short movie that in the end shows a virtualization of the car:
It is highly unlikely that the Luca will make it to production as is, but it shows how car design might evolve.

Not only for car manufacture, recycling makes more sense than an outright ban on some plastic products.
When it comes to production, it's interesting how natural fibers can fare as an option other than the more widely used fiberglass for reinforcement on plastic components. Even if the Luca doesn't reach a full-volume production, it makes sense to do it on other vehicles too.

The official page is live now:
https://www.tue.nl/en/news/news-over...ecycled-waste/
As it seats 2, has a top speed of 90 km/h and a range of about 220 km it will have limited appeal. But it would be cheap and efficient.

90 clicks puts it within the neighborhood class of low speed vehicles and it's better looking than a Gem.
