lucas vs bosch fuel pumps on diesels?

So, i'm on the lookout for a veg oil friendly diesel.

Needing it to fulfil 3 functions:

Cheap to run
good load carrying capacity
Able to experiment with different fuels

2 have cropped up relatively locally.

First is a 1997 vw polo 1.9d(na, no turbo) with a lucas pump.

Second is a 1998 vw passat 1.9tdi with a bosch pump.

i know the bosch pump will happily run on most anything, but does anyone have any experience re the lucas setup and alternative fuels?

I'd be interested to hear your experiences!

Thanks

A Volkswagen that's cheap to run?...I'm not sure I understand the question...lol.

I have a gas VW and I recently bought a 1.9tdi with potential plans for veg operation....it's an 03...last year for the Bosch VE injector pump (on this side of the Atlantic at least).
