Making the Ranking System more prominent in the Garage

This point may be worthless, and I may be missing a simple click to find this. I have not seen it, and I searched, but couldn't find any link or information.

We have a ranking system that fluctuates depending on our performance, based on fuel use. But, the only way I can find to see ones ranking is to go through page by page. This is fine for those leading the board, but other than the top 50, it is going through the pages to find the info. Could we implement something that would show a performance status? Such as 597/7899 Cars, or whatever the ranking is. Of course I would like more details, to narrow it down, sort by MPGvs estimated, sort by MPG, so on, but those can be developed later or just not at all.

I know I have an interest, and I wanted to gauge the interest of the others here.

Vehicle class should also be included, people who've swamped engines or have converted to alternative fuels and such. At that point it's not the same vehicle, a gas engine in your car rated to 21 mpg swapped for a diesel that gets 40 or 50 mpg is not an actual gain unless it's rated against what similar models with that engine are getting.

I think this wouldn't be controllable. A lot is based off of what users put in, sometimes I see very shocking numbers, and when I go to check it out and see how it's done, it's one tank, over a gallon or two, and the only fill up added- or one every six months, so on. The unreliable data that doesn't seem as complete, or as realistic will still not be accurate.

I remember reading an old thread that someone was posting their fuel economy and not counting the gallons they got for free. Their mindset was "I didn't pay for it, it doesn't get counted as gas I bought, so it's free miles to me." So, their mpg was crazy high, and skewed the charts. Personally, I would just do the math to figure out the average gallon price- if you have ten gallons, five you paid $2.00 for, five that were free, you paid $1.00/g, but not everyone thinks that way. It's all honor based, and the dishonorable usually don't want to play fair, or attempt proof- that's just something to have to deal with it, unless others have a suggestion.

I am contemplating some type of Guinness World Record attempt eventually, but that's something entirely different on my own lol

I would like to see an option to compare with them, but I would think the easiest way would be to take the data we already have (trucks, diesels, et cetera already in their own category) still separated. So one COULD look at trucks/diesels/ whatever vs cars, or just see x/xxxx cars.

I like the brainstorming, but the actual implementation and content will be on the Mods (or their developers) and what is reasonable for them to put together.

The rating system rates by total distance per total volume over a certain period, so small fills will have low impact.

Spritmonitor.de allows log list browsing by any combination of parameters, including minimal distance, recent activity and fill period (by date pair). Not saying we need copy that - who needs 2 spritmonitors - but maybe worth a look for ideas.

I do not mind the occasional vanity clown. If it gets annoying there is moderation, maybe a Personal flag that restricts the log to queries by its owner could keep everyone happy.
Spritmonitor apparently does not moderate, but most (99% of) logs are fine save for the occasional unintentional user error.

I kind of disagree.

The premise of this site is not just hypermiling, but ecomodding (hence, the name). An engine swap is just another strategy to maximize the efficiency of a car or truck.

Eg. - I choose to P&G between 55 and 40 on a 65 mph highway. Should my numbers, which are really high for my particular car, be in a different class than someone who chooses to drive PSLs on similar roads?

If a user wants to update their EPA numbers to reflect the engine they've swapped in, it's up to them. I say taking a car that gets 21 mpg ang making it get 40 or 50 mpg, before any driving changes are made, is worthy of a high spot in the rankings.
