Mall Crawler in handicaped spaces Rant
Last Saturday my wife and I went to Las Lunas NM to find some stuff that isn't available where we live (45min drive), and to eat at Chilie's. While eating my wife sees a large jacked up 4x4 pickup pull into a handicapped spot. Her first comment before they even got out was "They are NOT handicapped". I mean seriously I am 6'4" tall and the bottom of the door was at my waist. The thing did not have any kind of side steps or anything. They put a handicapped placard on the mirror and then jumped out (yes jumped) were shorter than my wife. Then when we get to Lowes another mall crawler pulls into a handicapped spot, doesnt even bother to put a placard in the window and walks in just fine.
Now I understand that some people have such vehicles to show off and as status symbols but it was that cherry on top of parking in a handicapped spot when there is no way that an actually handicapped person could possibly get in and out that just irked me. And not just once but twice in under an hour.

Cops here couldn't care less, on top of that because it is on private property they have to get permission first to give a ticket.

Many qualifying handicaps are not readily identifiable. I agree in the case of the jacked up truck that the passengers probably didn't qualify, but it is possible that the driver had a lung issue which limits ability to walk or stand for long periods. Such a disability might not interfere with the ability to climb in and out of a large truck. The other car might have had a plate instead of a placard, or just plain forgot to display it.

Not here (private property). They wrote me a ticket for no city tag on private property. Only issue was I had a month to get one and it had not been a month. Low risk enforcement.

Could be that the handicap was mental.

My sister's husband was hurt on the job as a firefighter 37 years ago. I really get ticked off when they can't find a spot to get the wheelchair ramp out, and asshats like that are taking up the spaces.
As long as the permit is current and issued based on a statement from an MD, you are out of luck these days. I think the doctors should be taken to task for issuing all these "you get to park in premium spots" permits.

I have a pretty long history of telling people like these jerks, that their mental handicap doesn't qualify them for the parking spot

The handicap was moral.
(though "ethical" is closer)
There is the lack of shame at using their mothers' handicap placard. Xmas makes it terrible. Sometimes (yeah!) the police demand the ID of those using them . . . and need to have ol' granny aboard to make it legal.

i remember my late grama having one.
i all ways made it a point to not use the space when she was not with me.
walking an extra 50 feet is no big deal at all...
but when she was with me then yea, id use the space....
as to the lifted auto thing, i know some one that's in that same type of thing, they can drive just fine, but walking is the reason they have the card do to there back being injured.
granted ive never seen them jump in and out....all ways slow and carfull
