Here's Mercedes' Transforming Afterburner Tail In Action

It seems they took a lot into account for drag except the brick nose.

The nose requires very little softening to achieve fully-attached flow and flow saturation.
Here is the mid-70's VW Golf.Nothing wrong with it at all

M-B's nose should be just fine.
