Modular Car

Green Car Congress: Concept: modular EV-hybrid features battery and engine swapping

I was hauling a 9 HP Honda manual start Diesel engine in the back of my Fiesta and wondering how fast I could get my car to go on only the power of that engine. I produces 15 pounds feet of torque, about the same as a 250 CC motorcycle engine, 411 CC with a max RPM of 3600, 25 cubic inches.

Apparently the idea of a modular configuration with potentially several different fuel consuming power sources is being considered by others. Plug it in for local transportation and put the IC power pack in for the highway.

regards
Mech

The 15 pound feet aren't a factor... The 9 hp is... With 9 hp and your standard Fiesta aero, you should be able to hold around 40 - 50 mph on level ground... i think.

It's all about gears. But, considering the usage of similar engines into 3-wheelers in Europe, India and Pakistan, I wouldn't expect it to reach more than 35mph...
