Molasses

Had my oil pan develop a leak and took it to the dealer for warranty repair. They found the oil pan to be out of square.

Anyway, they refilled the motor with the dino 5w20 oil (so they say) and my economy went down FOUR mpg!

I even refilled the tank to start fresh and I am at 31.5 mpg when I am usually at 35.5 or so for my usual in town travel.

Seems more like SAE50. Takes twice as long to warm up at 40f and this afternoon I was able to come home in 70f with the full upper, AND the full lower that I usually only run on the 0430 trip to work!

Oh well, been wanting to try the 0w20 Toyota oil anyway.....

Did you check to see if they over filled it?

They did, just like always. Used a vacuum pump to remove excess.

Makes you wonder, If they can't get the oil fill correct, what about the rest of the work. I would not expect that kind of a mileage drop from the wrong weight of oil, but over filling, yes!

If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. That's why I don't pay for new cars with warranties, and that's why I do my own work (also, I'm cheap).
