Upper front splitter

Has anyone tried or thought about the idea of an upper front air splitter that stuck out from the front of your hood? To me this would help in keeping the air going over the hood unmolested from the air being deflected up from the grill. Any thoughts?

I Thought about that too, but figured the force of the wind would break the mod or warp the metal it is mounted to.

Looks like a great way to increase drag.

front splitter

I think that if you could see a wind tunnel photo of this vehicle, with a smoke rake held out in front, that the air would be fully attached over the leading edge of the hood.It will be more "deformed" than say with a nose like basjoos has, however it is attached, and if it passes over the rest of the car without circulation, will basically render okay drag characteristics.A foil as depicted would create an enormous stagnation bubble ahead of the car with high local pressure, and as others have mentioned would probably shear away.Over at maxmpg,in the Misc.photo section I have some photos of a Rabbit in the VW wind tunnel. You might want to check it out.
